This kitchen knife was forged from high carbon tungsten tool steel (1.2442), smelted to high specification for the edge tool industry by a small producer in Germany, laminated by the process of forge welding in a traditional smith's hearth with historic wrought iron to form a three layer laminate (sanmai), the soft cladding supporting the steel core.
The handle is carved from five thousand year old English bog oak.
The blade has been treated with a patination process to protect it from tarnishing and to help initiate further patination. It is not intended to be permanent and will change or even wear away under normal usage
